Ambiente e imágenes cooperativas
may-jun/2026
Conference/Workshop
w/ Lachlan Welsh, Javier Peña and Luis Alejandro Sánchez
The international lecture and workshop Environment and Cooperative Images: Open Sources and Emerging Methods in 3D Reconstruction brings together two ongoing lines of research that examine the intersection of visual media and digital technologies, as well as the conceptual and technical potential of digitally processing photographic archives as a means of reconstructing and verifying spatial information, with a particular emphasis on environmental data.
The first research project informing Environment and Cooperative Images interrogates the stability of visual truth in the age of generative artificial intelligence, proposing that the corroborative logic of photogrammetry—where truth and plausibility emerge relationally across multiple sources—offers a model for critical visual literacy. The second project extends this logic into the field of environmental studies, mobilizing methodologies drawn from Open-Source Intelligence, photogrammetry, camera matching, and digital simulation to reconstruct the environmental conditions associated with an industrial accident. Taken together, the two investigations examine how incomplete, fragmented, and dispersed images may nonetheless produce cooperative forms of evidence for forensic architecture and meteorology.
Drawing on the experiences and methodologies developed through both investigations, the program will also include a short workshop open to the university community and the broader public. The workshop will introduce participants to a repertoire of digital image-processing techniques for the production of medium-scale spatial and landscape models grounded in principles of open verification. One Rusty Iron Heart. Notas sobre Chicago: Arquitectura, trabajo y producción
ene/2024Workshop/Seminar (Convening)
w/ Carlos Aguilar and Francesco Marullo

Directed by Francesco Marullo, this seminar and workshop explored Chicago as a paradigm for understanding labor and the relationship between architecture and production. Through five lecture-conversations and a series of written/drawn exercises—machinations—participants examined Chicago’s industrial evolution and its “generic” architecture, developed alongside the glamorous skyscrapers of the Loop.
The seminar traced the city’s transformation from a frontier outpost to a modern metropolis, focusing on architectural case studies from the 1830s to the 1930s. It reflected on the intersections of labor, architecture, and urban form, alongside the rise of organized labor and worker resistance. See more ↗

Banderas Rojas
2023/03/15Operaciones (MEDIO), Costa Rica
Panel (Convening)
w/ Pablo Hernández Hernández, Gloriana Ximendaz, Matilde Campodónico, Sara Aliaga Ticona, Rodrigo Abd and Sebastián Gil Miranda.
Red Flags was a project of editorial activation and expanded curatorial practice that proposed a critical rereading of the photobook Red Flag (FotoEvidence, 2021). The initiative aimed to reposition the book’s images not merely as documents but as active participants in the social, political, and aesthetic dialogue around the COVID-19 pandemic in Latin America.
A conversatory led by Pablo Hernández Hernández and featured contributions from several of the book’s photographers took place both physically, as part of Op.Cit. Obra citada, an on-site installation for Costa Rica Design Week 2023, and virtually via digital platforms. See more ↗

Seeing toxic airs
2022/09
Workshop/seminar (Convening)
w/ Rosa Whiteley

Directed by Rosa Whiteley, the Seeing Toxic Airs workshop explored how materials moved from the ground to the air, into our bodies, and through built environments. The workshop examined how we interacted with invisible architectures through air pollution, pesticide dispersal from monoculture farms, and dust emissions from cement plants. See more ↗
